Populus section Populus, of the Populus (poplar) genus, includes the aspen trees and the white poplar Populus alba. The five typical aspens are all native to cold regions with cool summers, in the north of the Northern Hemisphere, extending south at high altitudes in the mountains. The White Poplar, by contrast, is native to warmer regions, with hot, dry summers. These trees are all medium. Genus: Populus. poplar. Species of Populus have two kinds of leaves: those that emerge from the overwintered bud, called first leaves, and those produced later in the season at the ends of the branches, called new leaves. Look at both types when possible, because they vary in size, shape, and number of teeth on the leaf edge.

  Qualitative analysis by GC-MS revealed that sample 4 (Adana) contained diterpenic acids and high percent of cinnamyl cinnamate, sample 5 (Erzurum)--significant amounts of hydroxy fatty acids and triterpenic alcohols, and sample 6 (Artvin)--phenolic glycerides, characteristic for the bud exudate of Populus euphratica Oliv. By using anhydrous Na 2 SO 4 the oil was dried and stored in an air tight container at 2ºC before GC- MS analysis.
